Fokker - Planck description and diffusive phonon heat transport

چکیده
We propose a prescription based on the Fokker-Planck equation in the Stratonovich approach, with the diffusion coefficient dependent on temporal and spatial coordinates, for describing heat conduction by phonons in small structures. This equation can be analytically solved for a broad class of diffusion coefficients. It can also describe non-Gaussian processes. Further, it generalizes the model investigated by Naqvi and Waldenstrφm (PRL, 95 (2005), 065901). We show that our solutions can fit well the results derived from the Boltzmann equation.

Diffusive Property of the Fokker-planck-boltzmann Equation
We consider the Fokker-Planck-Boltzmann equation consisting of the Boltzmann equation with an additional diffusion term in velocity space to simulate for instance the transport in thermal bath of binary elastic collisional particles, and investigate the (macroscopic) diffusion properties of solutions in large time.

where m is the mass of the particle and γ is the friction constant, (t) is the random force with zero mean and a nonzero variance. As an example let us mention a generalized Langevin equation describing dynamics of atoms interacting with thermal vibrations of the crystal lattice derived in Ref. [2]. Both the friction and the random force are very crude phenomenological substitutes of the real c...
متن کاملOn quantum extensions to classical Spherical Harmonics Expansion / Fokker-Planck models
By following a strategy introduced in previous works, quantum extensions of the classical electron-phonon scattering operator are deduced from first principles. These quantum collision operators satisfy a quantum H-theorem and relax towards quantum equilibria. Then, under an assumption of dominant elastic interactions, a hierarchy of quantum Spherical Harmonic Expansion (SHE) models is derived ...
متن کاملDiffusive-Ballistic Heat Conduction of Carbon Nanotubes and Nanographene Ribbons
Investigations of diffusive-ballistic heat conduction of finite-length single-walled carbon nanotubes and nanographene ribbons at room temperature have been carried out by using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The length dependences of thermal conductivity reveal the variation of the balance between ballistic and diffusive heat conduction. For both systems, the profile indicates ...
